This is a term position through June 30, 2015, with the possibility of renewal contingent on funding, University priorities and satisfactory job performance.

Harvard University Information Technology (HUIT) is seeking a Senior Business Analyst, who, as a member of the Identity and Access Management (IAM) Product Management Team will work with customers and subject matter experts throughout the University to initiate, investigate, document and analyze requirements for new and existing Identity and Access Management systems and services. Reporting to the IAM and Directory Services Product Manager, the Senior Business Analyst will play a key role in producing end-user training documentation and will assist in customer communications. The incumbent will ensure that the appropriate documentation is produced and will work with technical team members, quality assurance, operations, support team, and project managers to ensure delivery and implementation into the production environment. Projects will involve new applications and enhancements to existing applications.

The key responsibilities for this job include the following:

  • Translate business requirements into specification documentation including functional specifications, use cases and conceptual process models
  • Meet with customers to field direct requests, discuss requirements and collaborate on solution design including business process and policy related matters where applicable
  • Provide product support for new and existing systems, interfaces and processes that support the client’s business functions including taking a hands-on lead for certain operational issues to bring about resolution for customers
  • Take a lead role in understanding the business operating requirements for delivered products and work with the team to analyze and clarify internal and customer operational requirements
  • Work with the technical team to make sure that requirements are well understood as part of the software development lifecycle (e.g. requirements review, turnover, sign-off).
  • Maintain a basic understanding of the technical aspects of the assigned projects.
  • Work closely with the Product Manager to define product release strategy including prioritizing features and defects, scheduling and coordination of releases, and ensuring proper planning and coverage of functional testing.

Other activities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Function as the back-up Product Manager (second in command) including representing the IAM Team in other product strategy groups run by key stakeholders
  • Assist with on-boarding of customers, escalation of incidents, and operational troubleshooting
  • Customer communication and outreach including delivering training, coordinating implementation timetables, and collaborating on delivery of product information via the web
  • Assist with test planning, test data development and testing execution
  • Maintain an awareness of university and other government policies that may have bearing on the product suite supported

Basic Qualifications:

 

To be considered for this role, candidates must have the following experience and skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years experience as a business analyst
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills
  • Strong interpersonal and facilitation skills
  • Demonstrated proficiency with business system analysis and business implications of the application of technology to the current and future business environment
  • Excellent communication skills and technical writing ability
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects concurrently, and establish and meet deadlines, and work as part of customer service oriented team.
  • Knowledge of relational databases and ability to query using SQL

Additional Qualifications:

 

In addition to the required skills, the ideal candidate will have these highly desirable skills:

  • 5+ years experience defining business requirements in the form of use cases
  • Solid understanding and demonstrated use of iterative development (preferably Agile)
  • Strong grasp of software development lifecycle methodologies and ability to work within the boundaries of any process
  • 4+ years experience with Web and server-side applications
  • 3+ years experience of technical writing skills to produce process and specification documentation as well as end-user training materials
  • Working knowledge of process modeling tools; UML a plus.
  • Experience in Identity and Access Management a plus
