|The College of Engineering at UC Berkeley is recognized for its educational and research excellence, consistently ranked among the top three Engineering colleges in the United States. With more than 200 faculty and 4,500 undergraduate and graduate students, Engineering is the second largest college on the Berkeley campus. The College is composed of seven top academic departments and numerous innovative research centers spanning the fields of nanotechnology, computer science, energy, new health care technologies, the environment, and much more.
The Office of College Relations supports the College of Engineering’s core priorities through an integrated marketing and fundraising program designed to reach over 60,000 alumni, friends, students, foundations, and corporate partners. During the most recent fiscal year, 2011-12, the College raised $47.5 million through private gifts from individuals, corporations, and foundations.
|Reporting to the Assistant Dean of College Relations, the Executive Director of Development leads the College’s major gifts fundraising program and related areas, and supervises five full-time professional staff. The major gifts program includes major prospect identification, cultivation, and solicitation of individuals with the capacity of making gifts of $250,000 or more. The College’s development program is currently focused on completing a multi-year major capital campaign – with the overarching goal of substantially growing the College’s operating support, student and faculty endowment funds, resources for new initiatives, and other key areas.
The College of Engineering has a constituent base of 60,000+ alumni, parents and friends, as well as numerous corporate and foundation supporters. The Executive Director of Development must determine effective strategies for significantly increasing private support of the College from this broad array of constituents and ensure that these strategies are successful.
|•Extensive, successful experience in a university or comparable fundraising, marketing, or sales environment with a clear, demonstrated history of superior achievement and results.
•Ability to function as a strong leader and manager as well as an effective team player in a fast-paced, dynamic environment is essential.
•Proven record in project management, organization, planning, and analysis and in using technology to streamline processes and generate results.
•Compelling oral and written communication skills.
•Demonstrated experience in working with corporate executives, managing a large major donor prospect portfolio, and motivating a senior volunteer organization.
•Outstanding interpersonal and team building skills and the ability to effectively work at many levels in an organization are essential.
•Experience with annual fund programs, especially with high level gift clubs, is desirable.
