Description :



Oversees the operations of Student Health Services including strategic development, fiscal management and development of policies and procedures. Provides a holistic wellness/health and nutrition model for students to promote academic success.


  • Report to the Associate Vice-President/Dean of Students
  • Assume administrative direction, leadership and management for all components of Student Health Services
  • Develop policies and procedures to comply with state and federal laws and recommendations by the American College Health Association
  • Establish and manage realistic budget objectives and maintain cost control
  • Establish goals in accordance with student needs and organizational objectives
  • Direct and supervise nursing and support staff including but not limited to, full-time and part-time staff and students
  • Develop, implement, market, manage and evaluate campus-wide health promotion and educational programs to address the identified health and lifestyle needs
  • Abide by FERPA and HIPA policies as it relates to student educational records; work with student and University insurance provider(s) for billing and inquiries
  • Collaborate with internal and external constituents including faculty, staff, students, parents, community health providers, mental health professionals, etc.
  • Prepare and submit annual reports
  • Attend professional conferences and remain abreast of national trends and best practices related to student health services
  • Attend monthly divisional meetings
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Associate Vice President/Dean of Students and Vice President for Enrollment Management and Student Development


  • Current Florida Registered Nurse with Bachelor’s degree required. Five to Seven years of clinical experience preferred. Must not have had license suspended or revoked within the last 5 years.
  • Master’s Degree preferred.
  • CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications (up to date status).
  • Continuing education credits must be ongoing.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the role of Student Health Services in higher education and a working knowledge of the HBCU population


  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong organizational ability and the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Must have the ability to respond effectively to the needs of a diverse and demanding student and parent population.
  • Must be a self-starter who works well in a fast-paced, dynamic, team-oriented, and culturally diverse environment.
  • Must be perceptive and patient, with strong people skills and a willingness to assist others.
  • Ability to demonstrate ownership, accountability and teamwork.
  • Ability to focus on results and to commit on excellence.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.


  • May be susceptible to eyestrain, back discomfort, and hand/wrist problems due to long periods working on a computer.
  • Occasional stress may occur from volume and deadlines.
  • Demands normal manual dexterity and visual and auditory acuity.
  • Must be mobile throughout the campus.
  • Maybe some walking, standing, bending, or carrying of light items.
