Director of Recruitment
Washburn University Human Resources seeks candidates for the Director of Recruitment position at Washburn Institute of Technology (Washburn Tech). This position reports to the Dean of Washburn Tech. The Director of Recruitment must possess a willingness and ability to work and succeed outside of a conventional work week that may include frequent travel, weekend and evening hours. This position also holds responsibility for supervising and managing the day-to-day activities of the Recruitment Office for Washburn Institute of Technology.
Provide leadership, direction and supervision to empower an energetic and dynamic recruitment staff charged with planning and hosting recruitment events, recruiting students and carrying out other assignments and activities according to marketing and recruitment plans.
Work with the Executive Director of Enrollment Management and the Dean of Washburn Tech in the development of a comprehensive undergraduate recruitment plan that supports the mission and strategic goals for both Washburn University and Washburn Tech.
Work with a variety of internal and external constituencies such as teachers, Marketing and Web Page Content Editor, high school counselors, principals, and local community members to create and implement differentiated and highly personalized marketing and recruitment plans that take full advantage of available technologies and resourceful personnel to maximize enrollment.
As the recruitment event coordinator, provide direction and leadership to ensure events are well-organized, fall with budget parameters, and reflect the Washburn Tech strategic plan.
Manage and Supervise Recruitment Counselors
Screen applications, select and recommend hire, and train new recruitment counselors. Direct, guide and coach recruitment counselors in the management of assigned recruitment territories, monitoring their recruitment activities and communicating frequently to ensure the full and efficient performance of each counselor. Establish and communicate performance expectations, assess performance, identify training needs, provide feedback to facilitate performance improvement and professional development, and optimize recruiting/counseling efforts and success.
Data Collection and Reports
Use analytical skills, create reports and matrices to make data-driven decisions for new student enrollment. Develop an understanding and knowledge of admissions data relative to inquiries, campus visits, applications, admits, enrollments by high school, by industry and by region to use as a basis for planning, analysis and reporting. Analyze data from past activities and produce and publish weekly reports reflecting return on investment data for events, activities and travel by program and territory and other assessment measurements of recruitment program effectiveness. Apply in-depth knowledge of past recruitment effectiveness to assist the Dean of Washburn Tech and Washburn University’s Executive Director of Enrollment Management, along with the development of annual recruitment and strategic enrollment management plans.
Visit high schools, business and community agencies to meet and establish/cultivate relationships with students, parents, school staff, and business leaders interested in career and technical education and discuss and promote attendance and opportunities at Washburn Tech. Track student enrollment status, review records and application data, and maintain on-going contact with students to demonstrate individualized interest in their enrollment at Washburn and ensure their questions are answered and concerns addressed. Work the other Recruitment staff to plan and host special recruitment events and campus visits to promote Washburn Tech and encourage enrollment.
Budget Responsibilities and Projections
Project recruitment costs and expenditures for the coming fiscal year. Compile and submit budget requests and recommendations to the Dean for approval and inclusion in Washburn Tech budget requests. Manage current recruitment office budgets, monitoring and approving expenditures as appropriate and necessary.
Perform other duties as required in support of recruitment and enrollment management goals of Washburn Tech and Washburn University.
REQUIRED: Bachelor’s degree. 3 years of experience managing recruitment. Supervisory experience; expertise facilitating organizational development and change. Demonstrated integrity, commitment to excellence, collaborative work style and significant strategic and analytical capacity. Valid Kansas driver’s license with acceptable driving record under University standards, or the ability to obtain licensure upon hire.
PREFERRED: Master’s degree. Experience in marketing which has led to enrollment and/or participation growth; in working with educational enrollment.
