Job Summary Career Services at the University of Colorado at Boulder is searching for a new Career Counselor and Outreach Specialist to join our team. The Mission of Career Services is to provide a centralized, comprehensive career center for all students at the University of Colorado at Boulder. Career Services empowers students to take control of their own professional development and job search by providing the following tools and services:

• Career Counseling
• Job & Internship Listings
• Career & Internship Fairs
• On-Campus Recruiting
• Test Preparation & Administration

The counseling group within Career Services includes professional counselors from many academic and theoretical backgrounds. Each counselor is a general practitioner with a specialization in different areas. We strive for an environment of mutual trust and support in order to offer creative, state-of-the­ art career programming. To achieve that goal, we encourage professional development and engagement as well as collaboration within the office, on campus, and with the community.

The Career Counselor and Outreach Specialist provides career counseling, workshops, presentations, career planning, interview skills, resume writing, and job search skill development for students and alumni at the University of Colorado at Boulder . The Career Counselor functions as a key member of the Career Counseling Team and represents Career Services at university-wide activities.

We know the future matters. We have a large counseling team that operates from a strengths-based model. Each counselor is a general practitioner with a specialization in a particular area. The counseling team strives for an environment of mutual trust and support in order to offer creative, state-of-the art career counseling and career programming. Job Responsibilities:

The Career Counselor/Outreach Specialist position is responsible for the following duties:
• Providing individual career counseling for CU undergraduate students. This includes 8-12 individual sessions and one drop-in session a week.
• Supervising three Peer Career Advisors who conduct outreach to Residence Life, Greek Life, and diverse student groups.
• Program Development and Liaison Activities, including working closely with Student Affairs programs and departments to coordinate requests for career related presentations.
• Conducting workshops, presentations, and group counseling sessions to meet the needs of various groups , including: student organizations , Greek Life, Disability Services, Residence Life, the GLBTQ Resource Center, CU GOLD, and the Volunteer Resource Center. In addition this position will develop and present workshops through the CU Buffs Professional Program.
• Serving on appropriate Student Affairs committees as needed.
• Participating with Career Services staff on various special events and programming.

Note: This position requires working some evenings and occasional weekend hours.

Salary and Benefits:
Annual Salary: $40,000-$45,000

Minimum Qualifications • Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology, Student Affairs, Higher Education, or related field (must be conferred by May 2013)
• One year of career counseling or advising experience working in a college or university setting with college students
• Enthusiastic about working with undergraduate students and an ability to work with graduate students, nontraditional students, and alumni
• Interest in supervising students
• Interest in working with diverse student populations
• Demonstrated experience working with cross-campus partners
• Familiarity with Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, Strengthsfinder AND/OR Strong Interest Inventory
Required Competencies/Knowledge, Skills and abilities • Excellent time management skills
• Proven presentation and public speaking skills
Desired Qualifications Preferred qualifications may be used to further reduce the pool of applicants to those who are most highly qualified.

• Knowledge of social justice theories and practices
