The Career Development Office seeks a full-time Career Adviser to provide career advising and job search support to undergraduate students at a liberal arts college. The Career Adviser must be able to work in a fast-paced office that is student centered and job recruiting and career events driven.

This position requires a solid understanding of career counseling and the functions of a college career office. The Career Adviser delivers one-on-one advising to students and must be able to assist students in translating a liberal arts education into the world of work. Knowledge of careers in public service, nonprofit administration, communications, education, and art world related jobs are a plus in working with students interested in careers in these job markets. Reviewing resumes and cover letters, facilitating mock interviews, and giving workshops on the job search are an integral part of the job.

The Career Adviser will play a large role in supporting seniors each Fall semester during the busy on campus and New York City recruiting season. Additionally, the Career Advisor will work closely with the entire CDO staff to help facilitate the many recruiting events, interviews, and panel discussions that focus on job and internship opportunities. 50% of the job involves individual career advising and 50% focuses on administrative support regarding interviews, career information events, employer development for jobs and internships, and writing career handouts.

Knowledge of and experience in administering personality assessments and interest inventories is a plus in working with students to sort out career options. The key responsibilities include: meeting one-on-one with students especially juniors and seniors; leading workshops on resumes, cover letters, and job search skills; providing mock interviews and organizing mock interviews between alumni/ae and professionals and seniors during the Fall semester; working with the CDO Director to plan and deliver career panels and career information events including managing details of these events & working with the Director to research and write career information handouts for specific events

The ideal candidate will possess a B.A., however a master’s degree is preferred. Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to represent the office and speak at public events and write career related handouts are essential. Experience working with traditional college age students, 18-22, in a career advising capacity is preferred.
