Department Overview

University College at UT Arlington promotes student learning and development by providing coordinated and centralized academic resources and support services that help students define their educational goals and pursue a path toward graduation.  In addition, University College serves as a focal point for campus programming that helps first year students successfully transition to college life and meet the academic challenges set by the faculty.


The mission of  University Tutorial and Supplemental Instruction is to help improve student learning, grades, and retention by providing an exemplary academic support service to UTA students, offering a series of collaborative learning opportunities, including Tutoring and Supplemental Instruction, and empowering students with the required skills to master course content.


Job Description

Assists the Director of University College Learning Center in the development, implementation and coordination of the tutoring and Supplemental Instruction programs. Oversees the recruiting, hiring, training and supervision of the tutors and SI Leaders. Collects data and oversees evaluation of programs. Provides general reporting as needed by the Director. Conducts research and presentations on programs, and builds networks in the field.  Provides general supervision and evaluation of Learning Specialist I staff. Communicates with faculty and staff within the academic departments and other academic support programs on campus to coordinate tutoring and Supplemental Instruction programs. Coordinates publicity and represents UTSI programs with affiliates on and off campus.  Manages the access and use of TutorTrac for student, tutor and student access. Maintains the UTSI web portal, Blackboard platform, online learning and social media sites. Updates and revises policies and procedures for the tutoring and Supplemental Instruction programs.


Required qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in education or human behavior/relations disciplines with 3 years of experience working with college students. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.


Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree. Previous experience in tutoring and Supplemental Instruction. Experience working at a college level learning center, or with a nationally recognized Supplemental Instruction program as a professional. Experience working in academic support programs with college or post high school students in a mentoring or coaching capacity. Experience conducting professional presentations and training workshops. Supervisory experience of peer educators and student staff, as well as supervision of professional staff, recommended. Experience in online learning support. Excellent written and oral communication skills required.
